DANVILLE, Ky. – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 with an 18-8 win over Centre College on Sunday.
Wooster took control early, scoring the game's first four goals – two from
Rowan Pilon and two from
Lizzie Hardy.
Centre (2-3) closed the first quarter with a goal and opened the second with another, cutting Wooster's lead to two.
Yet, Wooster would create another 4-0 run with another two goals from Hardy and scores from
Nicole McCalla and
Sophia Mellis. Another late score from Centre gave Wooster an 8-3 lead at halftime.
Wooster had its best run of the game in the third with five unanswered, putting the game mostly out of reach for the Colonels. Five different Scots scored in that span.
Hardy scored her game-high fifth goal, and Wooster got additional goals from Pilon, Mellis,
Edi Fisher and
Mizan Jacobs.
Brynne Snaguski started her scoring late but found the back of the net in three of Wooster's final five goals of the game.
Kylie MacMillan and Fisher added goals in the fourth.
Hardy, Pilon, Mellis and
Priya Nehria each recorded two assists. Hardy led with three ground balls, while Jacobs and
Anna Mapes each caused two turnovers.
Junior
Audrey Richardson made four saves for the win.
Wooster outshot Centre 36-15, succeeded on 9-of-11 clear attempts and took 18 draw controls.
Next, the Scots travel to Texas for three games, starting with a match against Southwestern University.
