A walk-off double from sophomore
Sage Lammlein secured The College of Wooster softball team a 6-5 win against 18th-ranked Muskingum University on Wednesday.
Then in game two, delayed by weather and ultimately called due to darkness, Wooster won 6-3 to earn the non-conference sweep.
In game one, where Wooster led most the way thanks to a three-run first inning, Muskingum tied the game with four runs in the top of the seventh.
When Wooster came up to bat in the bottom of the inning,
Cate Barkdoll hit a one-out single before
Ella McCabe reached on a fielder's choice. Up next, Lammlein drilled a 3-1 pitch to right field as McCabe came all the way home from first to score.
Starter
Tori Conner had a great outing to earn the win, recording all 21 outs and allowing just two earned runs. Conner was pulled after giving up a lead-off single in the seventh but was put back in later to get the Scots out of a jam.
Jillian Meszaros had one of her best days at the plate this season, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. She hit two, two-run singles in both the first and fifth innings.
Barkdoll went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and
Emma Hetkey went 2-for-4.
In game two, Wooster's hot start proved beneficial and who other than Lammlein who put a ball into play and got two runs to score after an error at second base.
Muskingum (21-7) tied it at 2-2 in the third, but Wooster answered in the bottom half as Meszaros doubled down the right field line to score McCabe. Lammelein would later score off a wild pitch to make it 4-2.
After Muskingum made it a 4-3 game in the top of the fourth, Wooster (14-12) answered again with a sacrifice fly from McCabe and another RBI single from Lammlein.
Meszaros picked up her 11th win in five innings of work. She gave up two earned runs and struck out two.
Wooster returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they welcome John Carroll University to Galpin Park.
