Lizzie Hardy delivered the heroics for The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team in Saturday's 11-10 overtime win over Ohio Wesleyan University at historic Selby Stadium.
The opening draw control of overtime went directly into Hardy's stick, and the Fighting Scots' star midfielder was fouled upon obtaining possession, sending a Battling Bishop off for a green card. With the Scot-up advantage, Hardy spoiled Ohio Wesleyan's upset bid cutting right through a pair of Battling Bishops before calling "checkmate" with the winning goal past 'keeper
Morgan Leeper.
Wooster (13-1, 4-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) needed a late regulation goal to tie Saturday's tile with Ohio Wesleyan (8-5, 2-3 NCAC). That came from sophomore
Mizan Jacobs in the final two minutes of regulation. She came around the back of the goal circle, received an open pass from sophomore
Cassidy Driscoll and was immediately swarmed by a trio of Battling Bishops. With the foul occurring inside the 8-meter fan, Jacobs was awarded a free-position attempt. She took one step and shot, beating Leeper to the lower left corner of the cage for the tying score.
Ohio Wesleyan scored the fourth period's only other goal early.
Julia Kingsly found
Riley Riordan at 13:12. Wooster junior
Audrey Richardson denied
Emma Reynolds' chance at putting the Battling Bishops up two on the ensuing possession. Reynolds is the sister of Wooster lacrosse alumna
Ashley Reynolds, who graduated in 2025. Wooster senior
Anna Mapes scooped up the groundball following Richardson's save to prevent a second-chance look.
Wooster's first chance at the equalizer came from senior
Brynne Snaguski, whose free-position shot was saved by Leeper with just over nine minutes remaining. Ohio Wesleyan was unable to clear the ball as Hardy's caused turnover-to-groundball gave Wooster possession back. Wooster had a pair of good looks with around 6:30 to go in regulation that were both saved by Leeper, and those were the last Wooster shots until Jacobs' game-tying free position.
Earlier, the Scots claimed a four-goal lead early in the second stanza. Hardy netted back-to-back unassisted tallies, with the second coming as the clock hit 10:24. A Jacobs draw control was the lone game action sandwiched between the Hardy goals.    Â
Wooster's defense caused 14 Ohio Wesleyan turnovers, with the total ranking one off the Scots' high for a game this spring. First-year
Nicole McCalla's three led the team effort, as nine different Scots had at least one. Wooster's 22 groundballs were also spread out, as no Scot had more than three. Those with a trio included Hardy, senior
Sidney O'Rourke, and Snaguski. Richardson was credited with eight saves in the win.
Offensively, Hardy's four goals led the Scots. Jacobs followed with three and Mellis scored twice to pull within five points of 100 for her Wooster career. Hardy's nine draw controls led Wooster.
Abbie Grogan was the standout for Ohio Wesleyan, totaling 11 groundballs and nine caused turnovers. Defense was the Battling Bishops' strength, as Leeper supported Grogan with a game-high 13 saves.
Sam Frary paced the offense with three assists and two goals.
Wooster had a slight edge in shots at 34-27. The teams combined for 49 turnovers and went a combined 39-of-53 on clears.
Of note, with its 13th win, Wooster now has back-to-back seasons with at least 13 victories for the first time in program history. The 13 wins are the third-most, trailing last year's program-record 17 (17-4) and the 16 (16-2) won by the 2019 squad.
Next, Wooster hosts Wittenberg University (4-11, 0-5 NCAC) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21.
