GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The grueling regular season of the North Coast Athletic Conference wrapped up for The College of Wooster men's tennis team on Sunday as No. 26 DePauw University defeated the Scots, 6-1.
The Scots have faced ranked opponents in conference play for three straight matches, and for the third consecutive time, it's been
Anthony VanOyen in the No. 1 flight securing a point for the Scots.
VanOyen needed three sets but took down Finley Buelte, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. In doubles play, VanOyen and
Enzo Lopes had the closest battle in a 6-4 loss in the No. 1 flight.
The No. 2 team of
Bennett Dickerson and
Ian Royse as well as the No. 3 team of
Andrew Wissman and
Walker Wood each fell by a score of 6-2.
The Scots lost in straight sets for the remainder of singles matches. Royse fell 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 flight, while Lopes lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
Dickerson took a 6-3, 6-2 loss at No. 4, Wissman fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Wood lost 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 flight.
Despite the loss, Wooster claimed the No. 6 seed in the NCAC Tournament, earning a match against three-seeded Oberlin College in the quarterfinals. That match is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at Denison University. The winner will take on two-seeded Kenyon College in the semifinals on Saturday.
However, before that, the Scots will get a tune up in non-conference play when they host Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday.
