CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The College of Wooster baseball team ended the 2026 season on a high note, sweeping Wabash College in its final North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader.
The Scots took game one 15-1 in eight innings and followed that up with an 11-4 victory in game two.
The early innings of game one were kind to Wooster (25-15, 8-8 NCAC) as the Scots built up an insurmountable lead in the top of the third inning.
Back-to-back shallow singles by first-years
Noah Lindberg and
Matt Herlick plated a pair of runs before a
Nathaniel Huxtable single loaded the bases for
Zack Barienbrock.
Down two strikes, the junior laced a double down the right field line and scored two more. Two batters later, first-year
Owen Sherrill hit a two-run triple to left field and then came around to score himself with a
Koa Siu single.
Herlick had the hot bat as he mashed his fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth to give Wooster the 10-0 lead. Wabash (12-27, 4-12 NCAC) got one back in the bottom of the sixth but that one run was enough to stave off the run rule at the time and extend play into the eighth inning.
Senior
Connor Lambert was struggling with his command a bit in relief and loaded the bases. Herlick stepped up to the plate and cleared the bases with a triple to right center. First-year
Michael Graban pinch hit and scored Herlick with a single and then came around to score himself on a wild pitch for the last run of the game.
After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the eighth, seniors
Cooper Baer and
Patrick Wiggins combined to set down the side and put Wooster back into the win column.
A double short of the cycle, Herlick was the offensive star of the game, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a two-run home run and six runs batted in. Barienbrock matched Herlick with three hits as well, including two doubles. Junior
Parker Smith led the Wabash offense with a double as part of a 2-for-3 performance.
Senior
Devin Anthony (2-0) picked up the win thanks to a season-high tying 5.2 innings of five-hit, one-run ball where he tied his season high again with four strikeouts. Baer went 1.2 innings of scoreless release with one hit and one strikeout and Wiggins recorded the last two outs of the game. Senior
Caleb Everson (3-5) suffered the loss, giving up eight runs on 11 hits.
Wooster carried the momentum over into the nightcap, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Senior
Ryan Kramer walked and advanced to third base off a Sherrill single. A Siu fielder's choice scored Kramer and then senior
Colin Leslie tripled home Kiu, forcing an early Wabash pitching change. Sophomore
Luke Rizzo jumped on the new arm and singled up the middle to bring home Leslie. Rizzo then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error but was eventually stranded there.
The Little Giants evened the score in the bottom of the second, making it a ballgame, but the Scots came up with an answer in each of the next four innings. Highlights included a scoring play in the top of the fourth which saw a Rizzo bunt infield single and a fielding error on the second baseman, scoring Leslie from second.
In the top of the fifth, Rizzo left no doubt as he crushed his eighth home run of the season, a two-run blast over the right field wall.
The Scots ran into some danger in the bottom of the sixth when a pair of doubles plated another Wabash run. The Little Giants had another baserunner thanks to a single, but sophomore
Alex Eusebio retired the next two batters to preserve Wooster's 9-4 lead.
Leslie and sophomore
David Guldin really put the icing on the cake with an RBI single each in the top of the ninth. Senior
Tahj Orona and junior
Constantine Vernadakis prevented any last-minute heroics, setting down the heart of the Wabash order.
Several Scots went 3-for-5 in the second game, including Rizzo, Leslie and Siu. Rizzo and Leslie combined for seven RBI. Senior
Ben Henke matched that 3-for-5 effort to lead the Little Giants.
Senior
Jack Spring (4-0) maintained his perfect pitching record with the win, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Eusebio threw 2 scoreless innings and only gave up two hits and one walk but punched out a pair.'
Orona worked a perfect 1.1 innings while Vernadakis slammed the door with a strikeout for the final out. First-year
Bryce Haney (2-2) got tagged with the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits.
Saturday marked the end of several careers in both dugouts, including one who finishes among the Scots' all-time greats. Kramer finished his storied career with a 4-for-10 effort on the afternoon, including one run scored and one RBI. The senior will graduate 13th in program history in career hits with 208 and eighth in career RBIs with 181.
