Post Game Wooster Interviews
YORK, Pa. -- The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team advanced through to the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championships for the second straight season, defeating Farmingdale State College, 16-8, played at York College of Pennsylvania.
Â
First-yearÂ
Kylie MacMillan was the closer for the Scots, scoring the final three goals and leading the team with four. Yet, it wasÂ
Mizan Jacobs andÂ
Brynne Snaguski who got the Scots rolling to a hot start.
Â
The Scots took advantage of a player-up opportunity for its first goal at the 11:20 mark as Jacobs scored off the assist from Snaguski. The senior Snaguski stayed active, scoring the next two goals, including another player-up opportunity to make it 3-0.
Â
SeniorÂ
Sophia Mellis found her footing to make it a 4-0 game, scoring her first of three goals with 2:19 left in the first with an assist fromÂ
Lizzie Hardy.
Â
Mellis and Hardy each hit milestones on the day. Mellis scored her 60th goal on the season, tying the single season scoring record. Meanwhile, Hardy's five draw controls were enough to overtakeÂ
Hannah Shaw's single season record of 128 set in 2022, moving Hardy to 130 on the season.Â
Â
Wooster (17-2) extended its lead to six before halftime with additional goals from Jacobs and Mellis, whileÂ
Rowan Pilon andÂ
Priya Nehria scored for the first time. Pilon's came off an assist from first-yearÂ
Edi Fisher, while Nehria scored on a free position shot to make it an 8-2 game, which stuck until halftime.
Â
More Scots found the back of the net for the first time in the third. SophomoreÂ
Cassidy Driscoll opened scoring in the second half just 1:13 into the period, while MacMillan scored her first thanks to another assist from Hardy.
Â
Jacobs scored her third goal of the game off an assist from Snaguski to make it an 11-3 game and the Scots led 11-4 heading into the fourth.
Â
While Farmingdale State (9-10) found some successful offensive chances in the second half, Wooster kept piling on.Â
Â
Mellis and Pilon scored again before MacMillian's three final goals. Pilon assisted on the final goal, her 44th of the year, which earned her a milestone of her own as well, surpassingÂ
Britta Treu's 43 assists set in 2023 for the single season assist record.
Â
Wooster goalkeeperÂ
Audrey Richardson was active early and often, recording 11 saves in the win.
Â
Jacobs led the team with six draw controls, MacMillan led the team with five ground balls, and Snaguski collected a team-high three caused turnovers. Driscoll, Snaguski andÂ
Nicole McCalla all recorded three groundballs.
Â
Hardy contributed a team-high four assists to go along with her five draw controls, two groundball and two caused turnovers.
Â
Last year, the Scots broke the program record for wins in a season with 17 and won its first NCAA Tournament game. With Saturday's victory, the Scots repeat both feats with its second NCAA Tournament win and a 17-win mark on the season.
Â
Next up for Wooster is ninth-ranked York (15-4), who makes their 13th NCAA postseason appearance. The two teams square off in the second round at 1 p.m. Sunday.
