The College of Wooster field hockey team's second-half surge enabled the Fighting Scots to tie Sunday's game with Centre College at three, but the Colonels' Abbie Woolley sent the guests home a 4-3 winner 1:26 into the second overtime period.

Wooster quickly went on attack coming out of halftime, earning its first penalty corner of the afternoon seconds into the third stanza. Sophomore Izzie Kline deflected in a shot from the top from junior Frankie Zehnal to pull the Scots within 3-1.

In the fourth, Zehnal played a corner insert to the wing for senior Naledi Jani. Jani's shot deflected off Kline's stick for the sophomore's third deflection goal in the last two contests.

Just over a minute later, another Wooster corner turned into a goal. First-year Miranda Jones inserted to Zehnal at the top, and the Scots' forward fired in her co-team-leading third goal of the year in from just inside the circle with just over four minutes remaining in regulation.

In the first overtime stanza, Wooster had two looks at a winner. Addie Sheridan stopped shots from Zehnal and Kline in the 66th and 67th minute, respectively. On the other end of the field, Olivia Vonderheide's shot from the top hit off senior Melinda Lazenby's stick, caromed into the air, and hit the crossbar at the top of the cage. Sophomore Nono Kauffman's 15th of a career-high 16 saves came moments later, sending the game into the second overtime stanza.

Woolley emerged the hero once Centre's first offensive surge of the second overtime was warded off by Wooster's defense. She deflected the ball away from possession by the Scots and beat a defender before firing in the game-winner 1:26 into the second extra stanza.

Rylee Carothers made it 1-0 Centre in the 10th minute, putting away a rebound goal among a plethora of traffic in front of the cage. Wooster senior Brooke Benjamin had just recorded the first of two defensive saves on the Colonels' initial shot following a corner.

A Lola Florea pass from the wing to the post was directed into the goal by Centre's Leda Beale in the 21st minute to climb the Colonels' lead to 2-0. The guests' lead reached three when Hannah Miller tucked a goal through Kauffman's pads in the 27th minute.

Wooster's top looks in the opening half came from a point-blank Zehnal shot that was saved by Sheridan and a one-on-'keeper play that Sheridan stopped when Jani tracked down a played-ahead ball from near midfield and fired off a shot at close range.

Centre finished with a 39-14 edge on shots and earned 16 corners to six for Wooster.

Wooster is now 1-2 on the year. Centre improved to 2-2.
