The College of Wooster football team (1-1, 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) hosts Denison University (1-1, 1-0 NCAC) in its Homecoming and Family Weekend game, which takes place on Saturday, September 19 at 2 p.m. at John P. Papp Stadium. Wooster is coming off a 26-19 win at Kenyon College (1-1, 0-1 NCAC), a game in which the Fighting Scots recorded eight takeaways, six of which were interceptions. Denison made quick work of Oberlin College (0-2, 0-1 NCAC) last Thursday, blanking the Yeomen 50-0.

All-Time Series: Denison leads the all-time series 46-40-7, and the Big Red are 18-11-1 since the Old Red Lantern started being presented to the winning team. Wooster logged a 10-game winning streak in the series from 1995-2010, but prior to that, Denison went 10-0-1 from 1984-1994. Denison has a 12-game lead (23-11-1) in the series since the NCAC was formed, and the Big Red have won 11 straight. Notable, Wooster's first three varsity intercollegiate games came against Denison, and the Scots shut out the Big Red in all three contests by scores of 48-0 (1889), 50-0 (1889), and 58-0 (1890). 

Old Red Lantern History: The Old Red Lantern trophy started being awarded to the winner of the game in 1989 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first meeting between Wooster and Denison. The two teams originally traveled to games by rail, so the lantern was chosen to represent the series' pasttime.

Last Meeting: Wooster outgained Denison, but could not overcome turnovers and a non-successful trick play in a 28-7 loss on October 11, 2025 at John P. Papp Stadium. Alumnus Tate Journell logged 112 yards receiving on eight receptions and current junior Chance Bennett (Orlando, Fla./Hagerty) went for 93 stripes on seven receptions. Current senior Michael Boyle (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) completed 26-of-44 passes for 250 yards, but was intercepted three times. Senior Brock Sivon (Perry, Ohio/Perry) led the defense with 10 tackles and a blocked punt.

Offense Notes: Sophomore quarterback Damon Hooks (Indianapolis, Ind./Arsenal Tech) and first-year running back Mason Delmarle (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) scored their first collegiate touchdowns with rushes in the fourth quarter of Saturday's win at Kenyon.

b Wooster tied its single-game program record from 1974 with six interceptions on Saturday against Kenyon. Wooster's eight interceptions are the most in Div. III this fall. Junior Ja'Ontay O'Bryant (Ontario, Ohio/Mansfield Senior) became the fifth in program history to log three interceptions in a game in the final minute of Saturday's win. Junior Anthony Sines (Orrville, Ohio/Wooster) joined him with a three-interception game on the final play of the game. Others with at least three interceptions in a game in program history include Seth Mastrine (four at Allegheny College, 1999), Bryan Albani (three at Earlham College, 2007), Dale Fortner ( three against Oberlin, 1978), and Don Swegan (three against Denison, 1946)

Special Teams Notes: Junior linebacker Cam Crago (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) already has four blocked kicks this season in just two games. He blocked a pair of punts in the season-opening contest against Wilmington College, then blocked a punt and field goal on Saturday at Kenyon. No other player within NCAA college football (FBS, FCS, Div. II, Div. III) currently has more than two on the season.
