O'Bryant Now at Four Interceptions on Year

Wooster falls at Wabash, 34-7

Junior Ja'Ontay O'Bryant's 89-yard interception return set up The College of Wooster football team with an early scoring opportunity in Saturday's 34-7 loss at Wabash College.

O'Bryant nearly went the distance when picking off Wabash's Jackson Gilbert at the Fighting Scots' 9-yard line late in the first quarter. After running pick four of the year back 89 yards, he was horse collared by Gilbert at the Little Giants' 2-yard line. Wooster turned to junior running back Austin Fancher from a yard out for its score, which had Wooster within 10-7 at the first quarter's 3:30 mark.

Wabash's Cole Dickerson powered the Little Giants to the win, rushing for 178 yards on 27 carries, four of which ended in touchdowns. When Dickerson was not running the ball, Wooster's defense was up to the task, especially when it came to the passing game. The Little Giants went just 11-for-27 passing for 177 yards.

Wabash got down to Wooster's 1-yard line at the end of the first quarter before having to settle for a 26-yard Tyler Church field goal that made it 13-7. Wooster junior linebacker Cam Crago snuffed out Wabash's third-down run, dropping Dickerson for a 7-yard loss. Prior to that, Dickerson could not get through the combination of first-year lineman Jacob Dudek and first-year defensive back DaJahn Corbin at the line.

In the second quarter, Wooster had a big defensive stand, keeping the score at 20-7. Dudek and junior lineman Quan Russell collapsed in on Brand Campbell for an 8-yard sack. Later in the drive, Russell and sophomore defensive back Brady Keller read Campbell's keeper, and stopped the Little Giants' quarterback for no gain on a third-and-4 snap. Wabash turned to the punt fake on fourth down, only to see senior defensive back Brock Sivon knock Jordan Palmer down three yards shy of the line to gain.

Wooster's offense started to get in rhythm in the third quarter. Senior quarterback Michael Boyle connected with first-year receiver Logan Hupp for a 29-yard pickup on the Scots' first offensive drive coming out of halftime. Later, Boyle took a shot down the sideline to sophomore wideout Brody Snyder for a 30-yard gain on a third-and-10 snap. Unfortunately, the Scots' offense could not come away with points following the pair of chunk yardage plays.

Boyle completed 10-of-21 passes for 109 yards. Fancher finished with a team-high 12 yards rushing on 10 carries. Hupp was the offensive standout, turning a pair of receptions into 37 yards. Wooster was held to just 116 yards of offense.

Defensively, Sivon's 12 tackles marked the high total for the game. Corbon, Keller, and senior lineman Donovon Jackson all followed with nine.

Luke Adams accounted for 79 of Wabash's 177 receiving yards on six catches. Campbell finished 8-of-19 passing for 134 yards.

On defense, William Harris and Carson Foxen had five tackles each to lead Wabash. The Little Giants finished with five sacks.

Wabash ended the day with 473 yards of offense and went 8-for-19 on third down en route to improving to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 within the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wooster is now 1-3 and 1-2 in league play.

Next, Wooster is at Ohio Wesleyan University (1-3, 0-3 NCAC) for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, October 3.
