Scots Breakthrough In Second Half

Men’s soccer shuts out second straight opponent

The College of Wooster men's soccer team secured its second win and second shutout of the early season, defeating Juniata College 3-0 at Carl Dale Field on Friday.

After a scoreless and even first half, Wooster turned up the pressure in the final 45 minutes, scoring three unanswered with a little déjà vu on its scores.

In the 52nd minute, junior Will Pope connected on his first collegiate goal, turning and sliding off his right foot after receiving a pass from behind from Griffin Thornton.

The Scots successfully played keep away the rest of the way but connected on two more scores in the process.

About seven minutes later, shades of the season opener, senior Robert Hillhouse was fouled in the box, allowing classmate Aris Christodoulou to connect on his second penalty kick in as many games.

Finally, first-year Owen Eastgate found the back of the goal for the second straight game, finishing after being led by Aiden Faber in the 73rd minute.
Wooster (2-0) outshot the Eagles 13-7. Eddie Glucksman secured a season-high five saves.

Juniata (1-1), who defeated St. Vincent 1-0 in its season opener, moves to 1-1. Wooster holds the series lead at 2-0.

Wooster returns Sunday in the second game of a women-men doubleheader at Carl Dale Field. The men square off against Case Western Reserve University at 4 p.m.
