Naledi Jani scored twice, and The College of Wooster field hockey team doubled up Sweet Briar College 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium. The win marked the first for head coach Leanne Bough.

Jani's first two-goal game made the score 1-0 and 2-1. The senior scored for the first time since 2023 in the 13th minute. A Frankie Zehnal shot was saved by Sweet Briar's Reiyn Hart, but the ball kicked to the right of the Vixens' 'keeper where Jani was waiting for the rebound score. The second period saw Jani knock in a played-ahead loose ball from about five yards out.

Wooster's ability to generate transition scoring situations stood out, as Jani had just Hart to beat for her second score of the game. Wooster's next goal was a four-on-two scoring chance that ended with sophomore Izzie Kline's tipping in a shot from Zehnal from the wing. It marked Kline's first collegiate score.

In the fourth, Zehnal had a step on the Vixens from the wing, and that led to an open lower left corner of the cage. The junior forward tapped in the goal from a couple yards out for score two of the season.

Sweet Briar tied Sunday's game at one in the 19th minute when Gigi Hutman scored from the middle of the circle. Emmi Burdine fired in a lengthy shot from the wing following a penalty corner insert to pull the Vixens within 3-2 in the final seconds of the third quarter.

Wooster's first big offensive chance came in the 11th minute, as the Scots had three shots and two corners in a less than two-minute stretch prior to the first scoring sequence. In the second, a Wooster shot hit off the post, while a Sweet Briar shot that went in was waved off by the officiating crew for a dangerous play.

Wooster nearly tripled Sweet Briar 17-6 on shots. The Vixens held a 5-2 edge on corners.

Hart made nine saves in the loss. Wooster senior Nono Kauffman made one save and picked up a first collegiate win.

Wooster is 1-1 on the young season. Sweet Briar is now 0-3.

Wooster returns to action against Centre College (1-1) on Sunday, September 13. Action is slated for a noon start.
