Baseball America’s preseason NCAA Div. III Player of the Year … Starting shortstop and will likely bat in the No. 3 hole again … Possesses the tools to play at the professional level, highlighted by a strong arm and outstanding speed … Earned first-team all-star honors with the Chillicothe Paints in the Prospect League this past summer, when he hit .317 with 33 runs, 14 doubles, five triples, four home runs, and 33 RBI in 42 games … 2010: Named third-team All-American by both the coaches’ organization (ABCA) and D3baseball.com after breaking on to the NCAA Div. III scene, while also collecting first-team all-region and all-conference honors … The Princeton University transfer finished seventh in Div. III in batting average (.486) and slugging percentage (.890), and 10th in on-base percentage (.564), as well as tied for fifth in triples (8) and 23rd in doubles (19) … Led the league in both slugging and on-base percentage, and in doubles while sharing the lead in triples … Also contributed eight home runs, 56 RBI, and a team-leading 16 stolen bases … Reached base in seven of nine plate appearances (4-for-6 with a walk and two hit by pitches) at the NCAA Mideast Regional (May 19-20) … NCAC Tournament MVP after going 8-for-13 with five runs, one double, one triple, one homer, and four RBI … Defensively, won the shortstop position from Matthew Johnson, who moved to second base and was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays organization … Also spent 8.2 innings on the mound, winning a pair of games (2-0) with a 5.19 ERA and eight strikeouts … Prior to Wooster: Was Princeton’s No. 3 hole hitter and shortstop in 2009 (.303, 22 R, 8 2B, 4 HR, 21 RBI, .941 FLD%) and batted leadoff and played left field in 2007 (.323, 30 R, 11 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 20 RBI, 8 SB) … Earned all-county honors as a junior and senior at Cranford High School … Received four letters in baseball, three in basketball, and one in football with the Cougars … Personal: Born March 22, 1988 … Son of Wooster alum James and Mary Van Horn … Majoring in history.
