Wooster Logs Lowest Round of Fall at JCU Invite

Scots close with a 353

The College of Wooster women's golf team's Sunday 353 marked the Fighting Scots' lowest round of the fall, and that moved the program up a spot on the leaderboard at the John Carroll University Fall Invitational. Wooster paced eighth with a two-day 734 at the par-72, 5,676-yard Manakiki Golf Course.

Junior Abby Haywood logged a top-15 finish at 172. Haywood opened with an 88 and closed with an 84. Haywood's opening round saw the junior log five pars in a six-hole stretch starting on the par-4, 370-yard eighth hole. On Sunday, Haywood dropped in a birdie on the par-3, 148-yard seventh hole and made the turn at 4-over-par.

Junior Morgan Erdmann was next, placing 19th at 175. Erdmann's 83 led Wooster on Sunday and was at the forefront of the team's near-30-stroke comeback. Erdmann sank a par on the par-5, 424-yard sixth hole, and that started a stretch of seven pars in an eight-hole span. She closed Saturday's round with pars on three of the final five holes.

Junior Lizzy Hohman shot a 191 for 38th. She dropped in a par on the par-4, 329-yard ninth hole on Sunday, which started a stretch of three pars in four holes. Hohman went on to finish with a 92 on Sunday. A birdie went in for the junior on the par-4, 310-yard 16th hole.

Sophomore Sarah Buchholtz signed for a collegiate-best 94 on Sunday, which marked the second time bettering it this fall. Buchholtz played 12 holes at bogey or better Sunday, which included six on the closing stretch. The sophomore sank a birdie on the par-3, 138-yard 11th hole and closed in on the collegiate-best with a strong par on the par-4, 380-yard 17th hole. Buchholtz placed 47th at 199.

Junior Serena Grenga rounded out Wooster's lineup. Grenga tied for 53rd at 206. Grenga's weekend was headlined by a birdie on No. 6 on Saturday, back-to-back pars at Nos. 14 and 15 on Saturday, and three pars in a five-hole stretch on Sunday.

Wittenberg University won the nine-team tournament with a 661. John Carroll University's Julia Gulla was the medalist with a 7-over-par 151.

Next, Wooster concludes its fall season at Wittenberg University's Jeff Roope Invitational, which takes place Oct. 20-21 at Springfield Country Club.
