All-Time Series: Denison leads the all-time series 45-40-7, and the Big Red are 17-11-1 since the Old Red Lantern started being presented to the winning team. Wooster logged a 10-game winning streak in the series from 1995-2010, but prior to that, Denison went 10-0-1 from 1984-1994. Denison has an 11-game lead (22-11-1) in the series since the NCAC was formed, and the Big Red have won 10 straight. Notable, Wooster's first three varsity intercollegiate games came against Denison, and the Scots shut out the Big Red in all three contests by scores of 48-0 (1889), 50-0 (1889), and 58-0 (1890).
Old Red Lantern History: The Old Red Lantern trophy started being awarded to the winner of the game in 1989 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first meeting between Wooster and Denison. The two teams originally traveled to games by rail, so the lantern was chosen to represent the series' pastime.
Last Meeting: Big plays were the theme on Oct. 12, 2024, as Wooster struck first and grabbed a second-quarter lead on 40-plus-yard touchdowns, but a trio of 75-plus-yard scores enabled Denison to pull away from Wooster 48-30 at John P. Papp Stadium. Alumnus
Brazos Gadler logged his best game of 2024 to that point with eight receptions, 125 yards, and two touchdowns.
Offense Notes: Current junior
Michael Boyle (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) made his first start in the 2024 Denison game. He completed 18-of-35 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. Boyle is 12th nationally with 14 passing touchdowns, a total tied for tops within the NCAC. He continues to rank in the top-20 nationally in passing yards at 1,262. Senior
Tate Journell (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) has the fifth-most touchdown receptions in Div. III at seven. He needs one more touchdown reception to have a top-10 mark in a season for Wooster.
Defense Notes: Senior linebacker
Braydon Hudson (North Liberty, Ind./Washington) leads the team with 42 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks at the midpoint of the season. Senior
Paul Ehenger (Salem, Ore./South Salem) is tied with Hudson for the team lead in sacks at three. No Scot has multiple interceptions on the year, but senior
Louie Lindsay (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area Senior) is tops on the team with eight breakups.
Special Teams Notes: Wooster had a key automatic first-down pickup late in last Saturday's win when first-year punter
Nolan Hendricks (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) was roughed on a punt. That automatic first down kept possession with Wooster, possession which was not relinquished the remainder of a two-point game.
This and That: Wooster head coach
Austin Holter was Denison's offensive coordinator from 2013-21. During that time, he helped Denison to the 2018 NCAC title, which marked the program's first since 1986, and the Big Red made their first NCAA appearance since 1985. Wooster offensive coordinator
Kaleb Jarrett was an assistant at Denison prior to coming to Wooster, working closely with the Big Red's quarterbacks.
