Throughout the spring semester we are celebrating our senior student-athlete with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is cross country and track and field's Reese Johnson. Johnson is a political science major.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend Wooster for its outstanding academic programs and tight-knit community.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means representing your school as best as you can in your performances and your positive reputation as a student. Being able to contribute towards both aspects is crucial as a Fighting Scot student-athlete.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are being able to run the 800 meters in under two minutes and seeing myself progress as a student through the years with increased experience in upper-level courses that have facilitated my learning progression.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part of being a student-athlete at Wooster is being able to do well in school and then being able to compete at the collegiate level with your teammates. Having a break in your day to go to practice and compete with your teammates is something I look forward to every day.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am in an on-campus band that plays every now and then.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: I would say Dr. Matthew Krain made the greatest impact on me. I came in to my introduction to international relations course not knowing much or how to go about succeeding in this concentration. The way Dr. Krain's courses were set up allowed me to showcase my skillset and succeed in classes with him. This then led me to be successful in the rest of my major courses.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Coach Dennis Rice allowed me to come into the track and field program as a junior with no experience. I was able to settle in and find my groove to allow myself to continue to progress as a runner. I am beyond thankful for the chance to compete as a Fighting Scot student-athlete.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at countries that have poor human rights conditions and whether international condemnation is the critical factor in countries engaging in strategic investments through international sports to cleanse their human rights reputation.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Last summer I had a public health pathway internship where I interned for a semi-professional soccer club in Cincinnati and was able to learn the logistics of how professional soccer teams operate in the United States.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Just to be patient. There is a lot of time to form friendships, find your interests, and make important decisions. Settling in and finding your pace is as important as anything else.
