The College of Wooster men's golf team was in contention after day one, but the Fighting Scots' bid for a fourth straight Gatorade Collegiate title was upended by the University of Mount Union on Sunday at Zoar Village Golf Club. Wooster's runner-up score of 600 in the nine-team field was seven back of Mount Union.
Sophomore
Max Shulman placed fourth with a 2-over-par 146. Shulman's sophomore season started with a collegiate-low 3-under-par 69. He caught fire come hole seven Saturday, playing the final 12 holes at 5-under-par. An eagle on the par-5, 495-yard 14th hole headlined the stretch. Shulman followed the eagle up with a birdie on the par-3, 167-yard 15th hole for his sixth hole of the day at birdie or better. He had eight eagles or birdies for the tournament.
Senior
Parth Kirloskar was next, scoring his first collegiate top-10 finish. Kirloskar's 149 was tied for the eighth-best score of the weekend. Kirloskar closed strong, playing Sunday's final six holes at 1-under-par en route to a 2-over-par 74. Kirloskar birdied the par-5, 511-yard second hole and the par-3, 210-yard fourth hole on his way to turning at even-par on Sunday. He went 1-under-par on Saturday's back nine.
Junior
Andrew Carey tied for 29th at 153. The returning All-North Coast Athletic Conference honoree had four birdies in Saturday's round. His birdie on the par-4, 366-yard eighth hole helped him turn at 1-over-par on Saturday. On Sunday, Carey had a nine-hole run of pars, starting with the par-4, 337-yard third hole.
Junior
Jake Cammarata matched Carey with a 153 for the weekend with rounds of 77 and 76. Cammarata went 1-over-par on Saturday's back nine, thanks to a late birdie on the par-4, 340-yard 17th hole. His Sunday 76 featured a 2-over-par front nine and a 2-over-par back nine.
Senior
Mark Towns rounded out Wooster's lineup with a 158, which was tied for 43rd-place. Towns started with a strong 76 on Saturday, which included a run of seven straight pars, commencing with the par-3, 167-yard sixth hole. He played the par-5 holes at even par for the day. Towns' first birdie of the weekend dropped on No. 4 on Sunday.
All 13 of Wooster's team members played in the event. Sophomore
Nunth Khamkhokgruad led Wooster's B team and individuals with a top-five showing. Khamkhokgruad shot a 3-over-par 147 for the tournament. He played the first eight holes on Sunday at 1-under-par, with the birdie coming on the par-5, 546-yard seventh hole. Other top-10 finishes from the B team and individuals came from sophomore
Rafa Tanjung and first-year
Arnav Choudhary, who both shot 150. Tanjung opened with an even-par 72, which was one off his collegiate-best.
Mount Union's
Brian Myers was the medalist with a 5-under-par 139.
Next, Wooster competes at Adrian College's Irish Hills Invitational, which takes place Sept. 12-13 at Tecumseh Golf Club.
