Throughout the spring semester we are highlighting our senior Fighting Scots with the Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is baseball's Jack Spring. Spring is a psychology major.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: The family feeling I got spending time with the baseball team. I also chose Wooster because of the smaller campus with personal connections with the professors and student body.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means I have friends who compete with me who I can count on being there for the rest of my life.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my favorite memories are having meals, bus rides, and games with my teammates. Almost all of my favorite memories from Wooster involve my teammates. Specifically, one of my favorite memories is I.S. Monday and being able to celebrate with all of the seniors I know.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete is having the ability to get a great degree while also continuing my athletic career. Having a built-in friend group is one of the best parts about being a student athlete.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Amber Larson helped me jump right back into the swing of things after I was forced to take a medical absence as a first-year. She helped me choose classes that best fit my schedule on multiple occasions.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. Dan Scheibe and Dr. Amber Garcia are some of my favorite professors here at the College. They have both been my advisors and have helped me move forward in the right direction. They are easy to talk to and have been able to help me with almost any question I ask them.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study project is looking at how confidence can improve and affect an athlete's performance. I am looking at both individual and team factors that can improve or hinder athletic performance.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: In 2025, we went to Chillicothe to compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament. Along with this, I think the coolest thing I have done here at the College is get the opportunity to go to Italy with the team for fall break in the fall of 2023. We were there for a full week and were able to play two of the baseball teams that were there.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would tell myself to trust the process, and that this is one of the best choices I have made in life. I would also tell myself to not procrastinate as much. Most importantly, I would tell myself to enjoy every single moment that I get with the guys, because just like that, you will be filling out your own senior salute.
