The College of Wooster women's golf team logged its third top-three showing of the spring at the program's annual Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational, which took place Sunday and Monday at the par-72, 5,630-yard Wooster Country Club. Wooster shot a two-day 716.
Junior
Abby Haywood logged a fifth-place finish at 173. Haywood led Wooster's lineup with an 86 on Sunday and sank birdies on the par-3, 147-yard eighth hole and par-4, 341-yard 16th hole. The birdie on No. 16 enabled Haywood to play the stretch of 13 through 17 at even par. On Monday, Haywood solidified the top-five showing with a strong back nine, where the junior went 5-over-par to finish with an 87. Haywood pared both par-five holes on Wooster Country Club's front nine and both par-three holes on the back as part of a seven-par day.
Junior
Paige Nicely fired back-to-back 88s to tie for seventh-place. Nicely positioned herself for Wooster's second-lowest Sunday score with back-to-back late pars, with those coming on the par-4, 310-yard 15th hole and No. 16. On Monday, Nicely pared three of the last five holes on the front nine and gave herself a chance to beat Sunday's score with a par on the 299-yard 17th hole.
Junior
Morgan Erdmann found her rhythm on Monday's back nine, making six consecutive pars, starting with the par-5, 420-yard 13th hole. She navigated the back nine at 4-over-par en route to an 86. Erdmann opened the tournament with a 91 and had a run of three straight pars start on the par-3, 152-yard 14th hole. For the event, Erdmann placed ninth.
Junior
Lizzy Hohman shot 93-97-190 for 21st. The 93 marked a tri-spring-best for the junior. Hohman's strongest stretch came before Monday's turn with pars on No. 8 and the short par-4, 287-yard ninth hole. She dropped in one of the Scots' three birdies for the event, with that coming on the par-4, 363-yard second hole on Sunday.
Sophomore
Sarah Buchholtz tied for 29th at 206. As part of her spring-best Sunday 98, Buchholtz pared the opening par-5, 415-yard first hole and sank back-to-back par putts on Nos. 8 and 9. Buchholtz shot a 108 on Monday.
Senior
Alexis Neal, whose weekend featured choreographing and performing in the College's spring dance concert, played as an individual on Monday. Neal's final competitive round at Wooster Country Club was a 105.
Kenyon College continued its impressive debut season as a program, leading the six-team field with a 653. The Owls'
Sasha Belova was the medalist with a 156.
Next, Wooster wraps up its season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, which takes place May 1-3 at Avalon at Squaw Creek in Vienna, Ohio.
