Paige Nicely's senior year started out on fire, as she matched a collegiate-best with a 79 in round two of Denison University's Lynn Schweizer Invitational. The College of Wooster women's golf team placed 11th in a field featuring multiple Div. III Championships qualifiers and posted a two-day 707.

Nicely's co-collegiate-best featured an electric finish, as the senior played the final seven holes on Sunday at 1-under par, starting the stretch with a birdie on the par-4, 318-yard third hole. She secured the 79 with a finishing birdie on the par-4, 347-yard ninth hole and fired off three straight pars prior to the closing birdie. Nicely tied for 25th at 162 and played 19 holes at par or better for the tournament. Nicely's Saturday finish was equally as impressive, as she birdied No. 9 and rolled in her first birdie of the year on the par-5, 482-yard sixth hole. Nicely's 83 at the time was her third-lowest collegiate round.

Senior Abby Haywood was next, shooting 173 for a 44th-place finish. Haywood's year started strong with pars on four of the first six holes at Denison Golf Club, including two of the three par-5 holes on the back nine. Sunday's round saw Haywood close with a birdie on No. 9 and again start steady, with pars on three of the first four holes.

Senior Morgan Erdmann placed 52nd with a 178. Her 87 was Wooster's No. 2 scorer in Saturday's season-opening round. Erdmann fired off three straight pars to start and birdied the short par-4, 233-yard fourth hole. On Sunday, Erdmann's front nine was off to a solid start with pars on the 326-yard and 352-yard par-4 holes one and two.

Senior Serena Grenga's 98 rounded out Wooster's opening-round 356. Grenga scored impressive back-to-back birdies on the 233-yard, par-4 fourth hole and the challenging dogleg left, uphill, 347-yard fifth hole. For the tournament, Grenga shot a 205 and placed 69th.

Senior Liz Hohman shot 96 for Wooster's No. 4 score in Sunday's 351. Her strongest stretch of the tournament came during Saturday's midpoint. Hohman placed 66th at 198.

Washington University in St. Louis, which finished fifth at last year's national championship, led the 13-team field with a 603. Randolph-Macon College, which was 12th nationally, was the runner-up at 604. Randolph-Macon's Grace Anne Haggerty and WashU's Amy Beanblossom were the individual leaders with 3-over-par 148s.

Next, Wooster is at Heidelberg University's Fall Invitational, which takes place September 11-12 at Fostoria Country Club.
