A victory-saving forced fumble at the 2-yard line propelled The College of Wooster's
Isaac LaFay to North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
Wooster was leading Ohio Wesleyan 24-20 in the final 30 seconds of Saturday's game, when the Battling Bishops'
Mysaun Sanders bounced off a few tacklers and approached the goal line. A hit from LaFay at the 2-yard line knocked the ball from Sanders' grasp to the turf, then senior linebacker
Brandon Torres fell on it in the end zone for a game-clinching touchback with 19 seconds remaining.
LaFay finished the day with three tackles and three quarterback hurries. He is the third member of Wooster's defense to win the NCAC's weekly honor in seven weeks this fall.
Paul Ehenger was the first, following Wooster's 28-14 win over Saint Vincent College on Sept. 13.
Braydon Hudson was the second, with his selection coming after Wooster's 14-12 win over Wittenberg University on Oct. 4.
Wooster (4-3, 3-2 NCAC) is at No. 13 John Carroll University (6-1, 5-0 NCAC) for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Oct. 25.
