Box Score OBERLIN - The offensive combo of
Josie Bencic and
Annie Henegar stayed productive for The College of Wooster women's soccer team, who collected their third straight win with a 2-0 victory against Oberlin College on Tuesday.
During Wooster's win streak in North Coast Athletic Conference play, Wooster outscored opponents 7-1. Bencic and Henegar combined for each of those seven scores.
Bencic was awarded with NCAC Athlete of the Week honors for her efforts and started Tuesday's contest with the assist to Henegar.
Capturing momentum early, Wooster went up 1-0 in just the sixth minute. Bencic led Henegar for a shot opportunity off her left foot and Henegar happily connected.
Later, Bencic did it all herself to put Wooster ahead 2-0 in the 36th minute, weaving around a trio of defenders and scoring with just the goalkeeper in front of her. Wooster took that 2-0 lead into halftime.
The second half played even, with Wooster doing enough to keep the shutout intact. Junior
Lucy Carlin made four saves in goal.
More praise for Wooster's defensive efforts, after Oberlin (3-9-4, 0-5-1 NCAC) outshot the Scots 11-7.
Bencic's seven goals lead the team and places her third in the conference. Henegar's score was her fifth of the year, second best on the team.
Following the conclusion of their game, Wooster moved to a tie of second in the NCAC standings with 10 points. Wooster improves to 11-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
Wooster will wrap up its regular season schedule on Saturday when they host Ohio Wesleyan University.
