Senior Salute - Julia Jennings

Jennings is a member of softball team

Throughout the spring semester we are celebrating our senior student-athletes with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is softball's Julia Jennings. Jennings is an education and English major.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I loved the small community I saw when I came on my visit.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means I get the opportunity to play the sport I love with the friends I have made at Wooster.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The bus rides home from games are always the highlight of season for me. Being able to go to any sporting event and see faculty there supporting their students is special to have.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is the community of students as well as faculty supporting you so much as a student-athlete. They understand the struggle of balancing everything, so they will work with you to make sure you are on top of your work.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of Alpha Gamma Phi sorority, I play a lot of intramurals, and I work game operations.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Matthew Broda and Dr. Daimys García both have had such an impact on me. They have worked with me closely to make sure I am on track academically. I have developed personal bonds with them that I am very grateful for. Dr. Broda is someone you can always go to if you need to be cheered up and Dr. García is always there to help me with life in general. She has been huge for me on a personal level, and I could not be more grateful for her guidance and wisdom.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: I would say the entire athletics staff has made the Wooster experience special. Everyone in athletics are super intentional with their athletes and students. There have been great people surrounding the athletes all four years here.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: Since I am a double major in education and English, I am student teaching for my Independent Study. I will be focusing on gathering data and focusing a social emotional aspect in the classroom I will be in.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The trips with softball were once in a lifetime. Every spring break my team goes to Florida to play a lot of games. Those trips have created countless lifelong memories. This year we got the opportunity to play abroad in Spain, which was an unreal experience. We played Ukraine's national team and a local Spanish team.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would say meet as many new people as you can. Everyone is trying to figure out college for themselves so do not be afraid to make new friends. There is a shared experience in moving away from home for the first time so use that to bond and create great friendships. Never say no to an opportunity to create memories and do as much as you can.
