Senior Salute - Coco Rodríguez

Rodríguez is member of field hockey team

Throughout the spring semester we are highlighting our senior Fighting Scots with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is field hockey's Coco Rodríguez. Rodríguez is a political science major.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I wanted to follow a pre-law path and heard about all the great research opportunities Independent Study provides.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means being a teammate not only with your athletic team but the community that is formed on campus. The community is formed through little kind acts of service and lifting everyone up.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are taking Ohio Wesleyan University to overtime last year on senior day, scoring twice against Earlham College, and trips with moot court to compete.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete is the bond we share about having a love for athletics, even if we don't play the same sport, and being able to balance it while still attending an academically rigorous college.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Moot Court, and the athletes bible study.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Professor Matthew Krain has taught me so much, starting from introduction to international relations as a first-year to the complexity of the economic and securitization side of international politics as a junior. What I learned in his courses play key roles in so many daily interactions globally.

Q: What other people or resources positively impacted your Wooster experience and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Professor John Rudisill, who leads moot court. Moot court has taught me so much about annotating cases, forming an argument, and presenting it in front of a court, while also responding to judges' questioning effectively and logically.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at the reason for the governmental revocation of citizenship and its effectiveness.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I studied abroad in Chile, where I learned about international relations from a Latin American perspective while being taught fully in Spanish. I also traveled and competed on the moot court team.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Follow what I am passionate about and do not doubt the classes I wish to take because they end up being the right choice in the end.
