Senior Salute - Ryan Kramer

Kramer is a member of baseball team

Throughout the spring semester we are highlighting our senior Fighting Scots with the Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is baseball's Ryan Kramer. Kramer is a business economics major.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I was drawn to Wooster for its rigorous academic programs and exceptional Div. III athletic opportunities. I also loved the brotherhood the baseball team has and the campus itself.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot means working hard on and off the field and giving everything 110 percent of your effort at all times. On the field, it means being the best version of yourself and competing each day to improve while being a great teammate and brother.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: One of my favorite memories was when I was named an All-American after my sophomore year. My next favorite memory is my first conference tournament and playing with the 2023 baseball team. Another one of my favorite memories is hitting for the cycle against Keystone College as a junior.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part of being a student-athlete at the College is the ability to compete at a high level in Div. III baseball while also being part of the community as a whole. Being able to be a member in clubs and other groups allowed me to expand my interests and meet new people while still being on the baseball team and pursuing excellence on the field.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of the Jenny Investment Club, which manages a small portfolio of the College's endowment. I am a member of the stat crew for football and basketball and work in the equipment room.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: I think Dr. Huiting Tian has made a large impact on my interests and academic success. She helped spark my desire to pursue wealth management after graduation through the Jenny Investment Club and her portfolio theory course here at Wooster. She is always willing to talk about how investing works and has an open door to all questions. This creates a strong relationship between her and her students.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: I would say assistant baseball coach Andres Perez has made a huge impact on who I am as a baseball player today. He has helped me develop into the best baseball player I can be through our numerous conversations about hitting and baseball in general.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study looks into the impacts of Name, Image, and Likeness in college athletics and recruiting techniques and how those affect the quantity of student applications for universities. I wanted to look to see if changes in recruiting rules will have an impact on the colleges as a whole, and not just student-athletes.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The Wooster baseball team was fortunate enough to be able to go to Italy during my sophomore year to play two Italian national baseball teams. It was an experience I will never forget. We were able to learn more about the culture and rich history in Rome and Florence. Playing against Italian teams was an amazing experience.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would tell myself to go and experience as much as you can while you still have the time.
