Six of the top seven finishers for the men's and women's College of Wooster cross country team logged collegiate-best championship-length times at Friday's Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational, which took place at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio. Wooster's women took seventh in the 12-team field, while the men were 10th of 14 scoring teams.
First-year
Stella Anderson posted the highest finish for either gender at 41st. Anderson stopped the watch at 24:10.0, which was over a minute better than her championship-length collegiate-debut time of 25:12.6 at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Challenge two Friday nights ago. She was followed by classmate
Eloise Gravel, who crossed 51st, covering the 6,000 meters in 24:39.6, which was a collegiate-best 6K time by nearly two minutes.
Senior
Elise Wheeler's 25:14.2 was the third-fastest time among Wooster's entries, and good for a 60th-place showing. Like the two Fighting Scots' harriers ahead of her, Wheeler's time was over a minute better from her All-Ohio effort. First-year
Sophie Krummick finished 70th at 25:37.4, four tenths of a second ahead of senior
Reeve Helvoigt.
First-year
Molly Noesen-Bosscher (77th, 25:49.9) and senior
Cheyenne Wentz (80th, 26:11.8) rounded out the top-seven on the women's side and were the fifth and sixth Scots within that grouping to post a collegiate-best championship-length time.
The men's collegiate-bests started with junior
Basil Keck's 47th-place time of 27:13.7, which was about 30 seconds faster than his All-Ohio run two Fridays ago. Classmate
Grant Mentzer followed with the 72nd-place clip of 27:44.2, with that time ranking over a minute ahead of his All-Ohio 28:21.6.
Junior
Andrew Rombach cracked the top-90 at 28:05.3, nearly a minute faster than he was at All-Ohio. First-year
Gabe Coble rounded out the Scots in the top-100 of the field with a 28:17.4. Coble was over two minutes faster than his All-Ohio time.
Scoring Scots also included first-year
Owen Neville (129th, 29:05.9), while sophomore
Tyler Frye (137th, 29:15.6) and senior
Nick Schade (142nd, 29:22.6) rounded out the top seven. Neville and Frye's times were championship-length collegiate-bests.
Ohio Northern University won the men's team title. Wittenberg University's
Lukas Rieben broke the tape individually at 25:10.6. On the women's side, Ohio Wesleyan University placed all five of its scorers in the top-eight to run away from the field. The Battling Bishops'
Zoe Ward led the quintet at 21:54.1.
Next, Wooster competes at Wilmington College's Jenna Strong Invitational on Friday, October 16.
