Three from The College of Wooster men's golf team's lineup shot a 75 or better during York College's Spartan Spring Shootout, where the Fighting Scots finished second at 614. Wooster opened with a 310 and closed with a spring-best 304 at the par-72, 6,785-yard Country Club of York in Pennsylvania.
Junior
Jake Cammarata carded Wooster's first 75 or better, with a 2-over-par 74 in round one, and he rode that to a sixth-place finish at 153. Cammarata's birdie fest on the back nine brought Monday's round back to even-par after 17. He drained four birdies in a five-hole stretch, starting with the par-4, 308-yard 13th hole. The stretch concluded with scorecard circles on the par-5, 489-yard 15th hole, the par-4, 408-yard 16th hole, and the par-3, 185-yard 17th hole. Cammarata played his final 13 holes at 2-under-par. His second-round 79 saw holes six through 16 played at 1-under-par, with birdies coming on the par-3, 185-yard sixth hole and again at No. 15.
Junior
Andrew Carey matched Cammarata for the team's best showing with a sixth-place 153. He opened with a 76 and closed with a 77. Carey played his final 12 holes on Monday at 1-under-par, thanks to three birdies. The first came on the par-5, 489-yard ninth hole, and the others were at Nos. 13 and 16. Carey played 13 holes at par or better on Monday and 12 on Tuesday. Carey's Tuesday birdie came on the long 235-yard par-3 No. 3.
First-years
Arnav Choudhary and
Musa Shariff both tied for 11th-place at 156. Choudhary's 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday led Wooster's lineup, and he played the last 12 holes at 2-under-par. Choudhary book-ended the turn with birdies on No. 9 and the par-4, 331-yard 10th hole, and hit his third birdie of the day on No. 15. A fourth birdie went down on the par-4, 384-yard finishing hole at York. Choudhary signed for an 83 in the opening round.
Shariff, playing as an individual, carded a 4-over-par 76 on day two, going 1-under-par for the final 13 holes. He birdied Nos. 10 and 15 and played the last seven holes at 1-under-par, not dropping a stroke during that stretch.
Senior
Mark Towns fired a 157 for 13th. Towns rounded out the 75 or betters with a 3-over-par Tuesday. Towns made the turn at even-par, thanks to a birdie on the par-4, 429-yard opening hole and a stretch of five straight pars. He logged 13 pars and a birdie on Tuesday and played 23 holes at par or better for the tournament.
Sophomore
Max Shulman rounded out the lineup with a 164, which was 23rd. Shulman had a run of 11 holes in Monday's round that were played at 1-under-par with a stretch of six pars and a four-hole span of pars or better.
Host York shot a 598 to beat Wooster by 16 strokes. Stevenson University (Maryland) rounded out the field with a 621. York's
Adam Gorman was the medalist with a 2-under-par 142.
Next, Wooster plays in John Carroll University's John DiCillo and Dan Caschera Classic, held April 26-27 at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio.
