Shariff's Career Day Headlines Wooster's Final Regular Season Tournament

First-year shoots 2-under-par 70

The College of Wooster men's golf team shot a season-best 300 in the final round of John Carroll University's Dan Caschera and John DiCillo Invitational, which took place Sunday and Monday at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio.

First-year Musa Shariff turned heads with a collegiate-best 2-under-par 70 in round two, his best round as a Fighting Scot by six strokes. Shariff went 2-under-par on Sand Ridge's front nine, which was the first-year's second nine of the day. Birdies dropped for Shariff on the par-5, 545-yard third hole and the par-5, 485-yard sixth hole. He did not drop a stroke on the front nine and only had one bogey for the round. Shariff dropped to even-par with a birdie on the par-5, 570-yard 18th hole, making him 3-under-par on the par-5 holes. Shariff tied for 16th-place at 152.

Three of Wooster's entries finished at 152 for the 6-count-4 tournament, as junior Jake Cammarata and senior Mark Towns both carded that score as well. Cammarata fired an even-par 72 on Sunday, going 2-under-par on the front nine. He birdied three of the final four holes of the front nine, circling the par-5, 527-yard sixth hole, the par-3, 142-yard eighth hole, and the par-4, 406-yard ninth hole. Cammarata made six birdies for the tournament.

Towns opened with a 2-over-par 74 and closed with a 78. The senior played Sunday's final 17 holes at even-par, getting on track with a birdie on the 421-yard second hole. Towns' second birdie came on the long par-4, 441-yard seventh hole, and a third birdie dropped on the 311-yard 15th hole. Towns played his final 10 holes of the tournament at 2-over-par, with eight pars in that stretch.

Sophomore Max Shulman tied for 22nd at 156. He got off to a hot start on Monday, shooting 1-under-par for his first five holes. Shulman hit a second straight birdie on the 540-yard 14th hole to get there. He was 1-over-par at the turn on Sunday.

Sophomore Nunth Khamkhokgruad bounced back with a 76 on Monday to finish tied for 29th at 160. Khamkhokgruad started 1-under-par through 3, birdieing the 150-yard 12th hole, which was his third of the round. The sophomore played 20 holes at par or better for the tournament.

Junior Andrew Carey was 32nd at 162 to round out Wooster's entries.

While Wooster took fourth of the five teams in the field at 608, the Scots did outperform No. 24 Wittenberg University by four strokes on Monday. John Carroll University shot a 2-over-par 578 to win. The Blue Streaks' Justy VonLehmden fired a 3-under-par 141 for medalist honors.
