The College of Wooster football team (0-1, 0-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) starts NCAC play with Saturday's 1 p.m. game at Kenyon College (1-0, 0-0 NCAC). Wooster hosted Wilmington College in a Thursday opener last week and lost 22-19. Kenyon traveled to Michigan and rolled to a 40-10 win at Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon. Wooster is in search of its first win in a NCAC opener since downing then-conference member Hiram College 49-21 in the 2022 season.

All-Time Series: Wooster leads the all-time series with Kenyon 58-24-3 and has won 11 of the last 12 meetings. Wooster and Kenyon first met in 1890, with the Scots winning that contest 30-0. Wooster's program started in 1889, so the first meeting with Kenyon was the fifth game in program history and was part of six straight shutouts, as Wooster did not allow any points until a 6-4 win over Washington & Jefferson College that ended the 1890 season. Of note, the 1890 game followed a 64-0 Wooster win over Ohio State University. A historical marker at the site of the 1890 Wooster-Ohio State game was recently rededicated at Jaeger and Whittier streets in Columbus, site of Ohio State's first-ever home game, or in our case, Wooster's 64-0 victory. 

Last Meeting: Wooster's 2025 seniors scored five touchdowns and then-junior quarterback Michael Boyle (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) tied the program's single-game record with six passing touchdowns in a 49-6 rout of Kenyon at John P. Papp Stadium on November 1, 2025. Wooster broke the game wide open with a 35-point second quarter, during which alumnus Tate Journell turned on the afterburners, leaving Kenyon's secondary in the dust en route to 68- and 55-yard touchdown receptions. Journell's second touchdown reception was his 11th of the year, marking at the time the fourth-most in single-season program history and the first time Wooster wideouts had back-to-back seasons with double-digit touchdown receptions, as alumnus Brazos Gadler had a dozen in 2024. 

Offense Notes: Boyle became the ninth quarterback in program history to surpass 3,500 career passing yards in Thursday's game against Wilmington. All nine of Wooster's 3,500-yard passers played for the Scots within the last 32 seasons and Boyle is the fourth on the list to have played for the Black and Gold since 2010. Boyle's 18.9 yards per completion ranks as the 10th-best in Div. III. Junior wideout Chance Bennett (Orlando, Fla./Hagerty) logged his first collegiate 100-yard receiving game, turning five receptions into 115 stripes with a touchdown in Thursday's clash with Wilmington.

Defense Notes: Wooster's defense is in the top 20 nationally for sacks at four. Five players were in on sacks in Thursday's loss to Wilmington. Solo sacks were logged by  first-year defensive lineman Brody Eckelbarger (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut), senior linebacker Christian Kring (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington), and senior defensive lineman Quan Russell (Cooper City, Fla./Cooper City). Wooster's fourth sack was split between senior linebacker Cam Crago (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) and first-year defensive lineman Jacob Dudek (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic). 

Special Teams Notes: Crago blocked two punts in Thursday's game, the second of which set up the offense inside Wilmington's red zone. Crago was the first in Div. III this fall to block two kicks. Through games played September 5, he is one of six across all levels of NCAA football (FBS, FCS, Div. II, Div. III) with two blocked kicks.

Up Next: Wooster and Denison University meet for the 93rd time on Saturday, September 19 at 2 p.m. at John P. Papp Stadium. The game is part of the College's Homecoming and Family Weekend.
