Catherine Muzilla qualified for the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District® Team for volleyball, as announced by the national organization on Tuesday.
Burill tied for the team lead with 46 blocks this fall and led the Fighting Scots with 11 solo blocks. Her 101 kills and 1.17 kills per set ranked third among Wooster players. The junior upped her career-high in kills to seven during Wooster's reverse sweep of Capital University in early September, and later, recorded eight kills against Westminster College during the program's annual Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic. She matched her career-high with five blocks against Denison University.
The two-time CSC Academic All-District® honoree is a multi-time qualifier for the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The biochemistry and molecular biology major is part of the College's public health pathway program. She is a graduate of the College's Student Leadership Institute and is involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a team representative. More recently, Burill took over as a campus captain for the College's chapter of The Hidden Opponent, a student-run national mental health awareness and advocacy organization. She spent several summers working at Riverview Frosty Boy as a window clerk and server.
Hohman ranked fourth on the team with 190 digs, which equated to a 2.16 per-set average. She had a 91 percent serve receive percentage on the year and saw the second-most serves sent her way among Wooster players. Hohman's career-high in digs improved to 16 against Westminster, and later to 19 when she started at libero in Wooster's win over Pennsylvania State University Shenango. Hohman logged eight matches with double-digit digs, including four straight starting with Wooster's opening night win against Worcester State University.
Hohman is a two-time CSC Academic All-District® qualifier and a multi-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The junior is a graduate of the College's Student Leadership Institute and is involved with SAAC. The chemistry and education major is a lab assistant for organic chemistry and works as a substitute teacher. She is a STEM Zone intern and spends summers as an aquatics administrator with the City of Delaware in central Ohio. She regularly volunteers with nursery school students at Wooster and assists with lab visit programs by area high schools.
Laraway was one of Wooster's top all-around players this fall. The junior's 133 kills and 1.64 kills per set were second on the team. She served up 20 aces, the third-most on the team. Defensively, Laraway had 0.91 digs per set. Laraway finished a season-best 12 kills against Shenango and had eight or more kills nine times, including Wooster's win over Oberlin College where she added four aces and three digs.
Laraway is a two-time CSC Academic All-District® qualifier and a multi-time qualifier for the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The communication sciences and disorders major is a member of Alpha Gamma Phi on campus and works in game operations and as a fitness desk monitor. She is a intern with Greater Athlete, recording data for exercises and mentoring youth athletes on proper lifting and training techniques. Laraway volunteers with preschools in Wooster.
Muzilla stepped into Wooster's libero role as a sophomore and averaged a team-high 3.93 digs per set. Muzilla totaled 338 digs on the year and was among the team leaders with 30 aces, which were the second-most on the team. The sophomore had four matches with at least 20 digs, led by a high of 32 against Capital. She served up three of Wooster's record 21 aces against Worcester State on the opening weekend of the season.
The sophomore qualified for the Athletic Director's Honor Roll both times it was awarded as a first-year. The biology major is a member of the College's pre-dental club and a health coach through the College's partnership with Wooster Community Hospital. She is a volunteer at Wooster's nursery school and works the fitness center desk on campus. Back home, Muzilla is a sales associate at Party Place.
Schools with a CSC membership may submit up to four volleyball players for Academic All-District® honors. Nominees must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with a 3.50 GPA and play in 90 percent of matches or start in 66 percent of them.
