Senior Salute - Noelle Melgar

Melgar is member of women's lacrosse team

Throughout the spring semester we are celebrating our senior student-athletes with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is women's lacrosse's Noelle Melgar. Melgar is a psychology major.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because it had a great lacrosse program and a highly ranked psychology program.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means being a supportive teammate on and off the field. It means putting equal effort into your sport as well as succeeding academically.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my favorite memories are any of my team spring break trips and spending time with my friends. I loved our team Florida trip and Amsterdam with the team over fall break last year was unforgettable.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is having built-in best friends on my team.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I took vocal lessons.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Peter Abramo made the greatest impact because of what I learned in my consulting class with him. I learned my true calling for a business career path after working with an environmental conservation company in Nova Scotia. I created a marketing plan to help spread the word of their workshops.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: The primary goal of my research is to investigate how individual differences in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) traits condition the psychological processing of advertising appeals and subsequent impulse consumption intentions. My research is based on Moore and Lee's established framework from 2014. The aim is to establish the foundational mediation pathway to examine if exposure to a hedonic product description as compared to a utilitarian product description increases a participant's imagery visualization of the product and if this visualization leads to a greater consumption impulse. I am looking to determine the moderating influence of ADHD traits.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My team made the final of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament as a junior. Sadly, we lost, but we earned an at-large bid for the NCAA Div. III Championship. We made program history by being the first Wooster women's lacrosse team to win a NCAA tournament game.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: No matter if something ends up changing your plans, everything will work out okay in the end.
