Box Score KALAMAZOO – The College of Wooster women's tennis team took a clean 7-0 win over Anderson University in a match played at Kalamazoo College on Saturday.
It was Wooster's first win of the season, taking eight of the nine matches.
In doubles play, Wooster won the No. 1 flight, 6-2, and the No. 2 flight, 6-3. First-years
Sasha Riley and
Elizabeth Meiners made up the No. 1 team, while junior
Lauren Richmond and senior
Abby Williams teamed for the No. 2 win.
Wooster took the doubles point with the two victories and saw their only loss in the No. 3 flight where sophomore
Elyse Errington and senior
Willow Hernishin fell 6-1.
The Scots sealed their first win of the season making quick work in the first three singles flights. Meiners was showcased in the No. 1 flight, taking a 6-4, 6-2 win against
Ella Frantz. It was her first win in the No. 1 flight.
Williams won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 flight, and Riley won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 flight.
The remaining matches went the Scots' way despite unsuccessful first sets. Yet, all three rebounded to win the second set and the 10-point shortened third set.
At the No. 4 flight, Richmond won 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6). Sophomore
Jade Adkins had an up and down match and held on for the 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (8) win. Finally, Errington held on in a similar fashion in a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) result.
Wooster moves to 1-1 with the win, while Anderson falls to 2-5. The Scots will stay overnight in Michigan to face the host Kalamazoo Hornets on Sunday.
