Throughout the spring semester we are celebrating our senior student-athletes with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is women's lacrosse's
Bella Woodbury. Woodbury is an environmental geoscience major.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I wanted an environment where I could strive to be my best both as an athlete and a student and be surrounded by others who do the same.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Our team's motto is each and every one of us and to me that means understanding that everyone brings value to the team and the College in their own unique way. I am just one part of an amazing group of people who are all working towards the same goal.
Â
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
My favorite memories are playing spike ball on the beach at sunset on our sophomore year spring break trip to Florida, getting interviewed in the press conference after winning in the first round of the NCAA Div. III Tournament, and screaming
Unwritten in the locker room as a team before games.
Â
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Student-athletes at the College have a work hard, play hard attitude that has taught me how to thrive in both an athletic and academic setting while still having fun and pursuing hobbies outside of the sport.
Â
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a four-year board member of the Wooster Volunteer Network, a club that connects Wooster students to the community by planning and organizing service events. The Wooster Volunteer Network has been such a fulfilling experience, and I am so grateful for the people I have met and the lives we have impacted through it. I was a volleyball statistics spotter and started commentator on the field hockey home game streams this fall. I am a volunteer with a service house program and was a teaching assistant for two courses.
Â
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Meagen Pollock has been a great positive influence in the geology department. Her encouragement and positive attitude make lectures fun.
Â
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: The career center at APEX is very helpful in resume editing, career advice, and finding a job. APEX has helped me feel more prepared to graduate and enter the workforce.
Â
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My I.S. explores teleconnection driven climate variability, such as El Nino, and its impact on agricultural productivity in Northeast Ohio.
Â
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I studied abroad for a semester in Tuscany, Italy. My program was focused on sustainable food systems and viticulture, and I got to explore so many awesome organic farms and wineries and meet some amazing people. I also had the opportunity to travel to some cool places like Rome, Paris, and Milan.
Â
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Do not be afraid to spend your first year figuring things out. Take lots of different classes, talk to new people, and figure out what you are passionate about.
