Throughout the spring semester we are celebrating our senior student-athletes with a Senior Salute series. Today's featured senior is men's tennis' Walker Wood. Wood is a Russian Studies major.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I wanted to study both Russian and a STEM field.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means being part of a team.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Working on my Independent Study has been a lot of fun because it allows me to dictate my path of learning within a subject I am passionate about.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: It means being able to balance the rigor of my academics and the demand of collegiate athletics.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I worked in the Russian studies department.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Zachary Rewinski and Dr. Peter Pozefsky have been my advisors over my time here. Both are very knowledgeable and make learning about Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus very interesting.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: My professors in the pre-medicine sciences and Coach Shaun Keenan have been very helpful. They are very understanding and supportive of me in all matters.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am writing a series of essays on Lev Tolstoy's works The Raid, The Woodfelling, The Cossacks, and Hadji Murat.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I studied abroad in Tbilisi, Georgia as a junior.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Do whatever you want.
