The College of Wooster's
Walker Wood earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® honors, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The Fighting Scots' senior won 15 matches this season, led by a 10-9 record in doubles, where he primarily played the third flight. Wood was electric on the team's annual spring break trip, going 4-1 in doubles with teammate
Andrew Wissman. The spring break run started with a 7-6 (3) win over Saint Ambrose University and included 6-0, 6-4, and 6-1 wins over Stevenson University, Schreiner University, and Lawrence University. In singles, Wood scored a 6-1, 6-4 win in the sixth flight against John Carroll University's
Cavan Boutillette and won three singles matches on the spring trip.
Wood's Independent Study was a collection of essays and translations on selected literature from Russian author Lev Tolstoy. The Russian studies major worked last summer as an ophthalmic technician, gaining field skills in terminology, equipment diagnostics, and clinical practice. Wood spent a summer as a Russian documents translator, specifically working with Soviet documents related to the history of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction. He worked as a production assistant for Saro Cider back home in Nebraska and is a multi-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete. Wood also studied abroad in Tbilisi, Georgia as a Wooster student.
