The College of Wooster had 155 student-athletes qualify for the North Coast Athletic Conference Dr. Gordon Collins Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, previously known as the NCAC Academic Honor Roll.
In order to receive this honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore on an active roster in a sport sponsored by the NCAC and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. In the 12 years of the NCAC Academic Honor Roll program, over 1,400 (1,441) Scots have been recognized.
Of the 155 student-athletes selected, men's track and field had the most representation with 18 athletes. Women's track and field and women's soccer were represented by 17 athletes and 16 athletes, respectively. Men's cross country and women's swimming and diving both featured 14 student-athletes, and baseball (12), men's lacrosse (11), men's soccer (11), and softball (11) rounded out the double-digit honorees. Sixty-one seniors are represented on the list, along with 47 juniors and 46 sophomores.
The name of the award honors Dr. Gordon Collins, a Wooster faculty athletic representative who played a major role in the founding of the North Coast Atlantic Conference in the early 1980s. Working at The College of Wooster from 1963-2000, Collins was a psychology professor who volunteered as a track and field coach. The emeritus Whitmore-Williams Professor of Psychology collaborated with presidents, athletic directors, and other faculty athletic representatives to create a vision for a new athletic association.
With the ambition to place an emphasis on academic excellence, providing equality for women, and a championship format for each of the conference-sponsored sports, Collins aided in the establishment of the NCAC in 1983. The NCAC Dr. Gordon Collins Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll honors Collins and his many years of leadership and advocacy for the conference.
Family and friends of Dr. Collins endowed the NCAC Academic Honor Roll in his honor in 2025.
