Lawrence Wynn Jr. has been hired as The College of Wooster's director of strength and conditioning and manager of the College's fitness and strength centers. Wynn Jr. begins at Wooster on June 29.
"Being entrusted with the opportunity to direct a collegiate strength and conditioning program is a blessing and responsibility I do not take for granted," said Wynn Jr. "I am excited to join the Fighting Scots community and contribute to the College's culture of excellence. I look forward to helping build a strength program that supports a championship standard, develops well-rounded student-athletes, and reflects the values and traditions The College of Wooster is known for."
"We are excited to welcome Lawrence to the College," shared
Lynn Holleran, Wooster's director of athletics and physical education. "Lawrence's track record of developing championship-caliber student-athletes and teams will be a valuable asset to our department. His leadership in strength and conditioning will help our Fighting Scots achieve great success."
Wynn Jr. is making the transition to the college ranks following a highly successful 11-year career at the high school level with some of the area's top high school programs. Most recently, Wynn Jr. spent five years as director of strength and conditioning at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, Ohio. There, he led programming for 25 athletic teams and taught proper lifting techniques to all junior high physical education classes. Gilmour's varsity teams regularly contend for state championships, with the Lancers winning Ohio High School Athletic Association titles in hockey and volleyball. Gilmour Academy was named the MaxPreps Ohio Cup Champion Wynn Jr.'s first year at Gilmour, and that award functions similarly to the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Learfield Directors' Cup.
Prior to Gilmour, Wynn Jr. worked six years at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio as assistant strength and conditioning coach. He worked closely with 27 athletic programs. Wynn Jr.'s tenure coincided with Archbishop Hoban's dominant run of five football state championships in a six-year stretch, and the Knights won state championships in baseball, golf, soccer, and dance during his tenure.
Wynn Jr. graduated from the University of Akron and earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science. He started his collegiate career as a football and track and field student-athlete at the University of Cincinnati. He holds a certified strength and conditioning specialist certificate from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
