Wooster Off to No. 14 John Carroll

Saturday's kickoff at 1:05 p.m.

The College of Wooster football team (2-4, 2-3 North Coast Athletic Conference) is back on the road for the first of three games in a four-week stretch against teams currently in the top three of the NCAC. No. 14 John Carroll University (5-1, 4-1 NCAC) is the destination this Saturday, and kickoff is at 1:05 p.m. Wooster is coming off a 79-20 win over Oberlin College (0-6, 0-4 NCAC), a game in which the Fighting Scots scored the second-most points in program history since six points started being awarded for a touchdown in 1912. John Carroll scored a late touchdown to hold off Wabash College (4-2, 3-2 NCAC) 24-17 on Saturday.

On The Air: John Carroll will carry a stream of Saturday's game. It can be viewed at https://northcoastnetwork.com/jcu/. John Carroll's game will also be broadcast live on Rock Entertainment Sports Network (RESN).

All-Time Series: The all-time series is tied 6-6. Wooster and John Carroll first met in 1937, a game won by the Blue Streaks 20-13. Prior to John Carroll joining the NCAC last year, the teams last met in 2007, a 24-0 John Carroll win. John Carroll took the first game as a member of the NCAC, 66-7 on October 25, 2025 at Don Shula Stadium.

Last Meeting: Alumnus Jordan Lewis beat the John Carroll cornerback covering him for an 80-yard touchdown in the first quarter, but the then-13th-ranked Blue Streaks dominated the Scots outside of that play, winning 66-7. The 80-yard touchdown pass marked the Scots' longest play of the year, coming in a yard more than the 79-yard Lewis touchdown reception against Saint Vincent College on September 13, 2025.

Offense Notes: Wooster's offense surpassed 500 total yards and 150 rushing yards for the first time of head coach Austin Holter's tenure at his alma mater last Saturday. Wooster's 32-yard touchdown pass from senior Michael Boyle (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) to first-year wideout Landon Iden (Zanesville, Ohio/Maysville) in the fourth quarter upped the Scots' point haul to the second-most in program history since 1912, when six points started being awarded for a touchdown. Wooster's 84 points dropped on Kenyon College in 2004 marks the only game in the modern era where the Scots scored more points. Boyle and junior wide receiver Chance Bennett (Orlando, Fla./Hagerty) connected on a 98-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to tie the program record for longest in program history. Previously, Mateo Renteria and Bryant Douglas II hooked up on a 98-yard touchdown against Wittenberg University in 2021.

Defense Notes: Wooster had two pick-six touchdowns in Saturday's win over Oberlin, both of which came in the first half. First-year linebacker Marky Floyd Fitzgerald (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) ran his back 35 yards in the first quarter and sophomore defensive back Grady Harban (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion tacked on a 36-yard interception return in the final minute of the first half.  Wooster's 13 interceptions are the most since the 2013 team picked off 17. Wooster's 20 turnovers gained are the fourth-most in Div. III and three behind national leader University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Special Teams Notes: Sophomore placekicker Nolan Hendricks (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) made 10 extra-point kicks in Saturday's win over Oberlin, marking the second-most in program history. Alumnus Richie McNally went 12-for-12 in the 2004 win over Kenyon. Alumnus Lake Barrett also made 10, with that performance coming against Kenyon in 2023.

Up Next: Wooster hosts archrival Wittenberg University (0-6, 0-5 NCAC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 31.
