Wooster-Wittenberg Week is Here

Saturday's kickoff at 1 p.m. at John P. Papp Stadium

The College of Wooster football team (2-5, 2-4 North Coast Athletic Conference) hosts winless Wittenberg University (0-7, 0-6 NCAC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. Wooster is coming off a 69-23 loss to then-No. 14 John Carroll University (6-1, 5-1 NCAC) on Saturday, while Wittenberg was shut out 31-0 by now-No. 24 DePauw University (6-1, 5-1 NCAC).

On The Air: Wooster will carry a stream of Saturday's game. It can be viewed at https://northcoastnetwork.com/wooster.

Ticket and Tailgate Information: Tickets for Wooster home football games are $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for senior citizens (62+) and youth (3-17), and free for College of Wooster students, faculty, and staff with your College of Wooster identification card. You can purchase tickets at the ticket booth located at the main entrance of John P. Papp Stadium (cash and credit card) off E. University St., or the table at the back access driveway (cash only) located off Gashe St. Tailgate policies can be found at https://woosterathletics.com/sports/2025/5/21/spectator-information.aspx

All-Time Series: Wittenberg leads the all-time series 44-13-1. The teams first met in 1912, a game won by Wooster 12-0. Wooster won the first two meetings in the series by identical 12-0 scores. Prior to Wooster's win in 2025, the Scots' last win in the series came in 2022, when the program authored one of the biggest comebacks in college football, charging back from a 33-7 deficit over the final 26:45 to win 44-43. Alumnus quarterback Mateo Renteria escaped pressure twice, enabling alumnus All-American tight end Cole Hissong to find an opening in front of three defenders in the end zone prior to catching a game-winning 7-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds remaining. Alumnus Chris Savaglio had the game-sealing interception at Wittenberg's 42-yard line with three seconds remaining to secure the program's first win over its archrival since the 2008 series finale. The 1948-49 seasons mark the last time Wooster has beaten Wittenberg in back-to-back years.

Last Meeting: Down went Wittenberg, 14-12, at John P. Papp Stadium on October 4, 2025. Alumnus wide receiver Tate Journell toe tapped the edge of the end zone twice for a pair of touchdowns, and Wooster held Wittenberg to under 200 yards of offense for its first win in the series since 2022. The Tigers sloppiness enabled the Scots to eat a lot of clock in the fourth quarter, as a pass interference and roughing the punter penalty gave Wooster two automatic first downs late in the fourth quarter.

Offense Notes: Wooster's offense has found its rhythm, as the Fighting Scots surpassed 300 yards for the second straight game on Saturday. Sophomore quarterback Damon Hooks (Indianapolis, Ind./Arsenal Technical) has thrown for 481 yards and four touchdowns over Wooster's last two games, completing 29 passes in the process.

Defense Notes: Wooster is now fifth nationally with 22 takeaways, two behind the quartet of Carnegie Mellon University, Texas Lutheran University, Wartburg College, and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Wooster's 14 passes intercepted are the fourth-most in Div. III and is the program's top total since the Fighting Scots picked off the opposition 17 times in 2013. Wooster's 14 interceptions are tied for the 10th-most in program history since Div. III was established in 1973.

Special Teams Notes: Wooster continues to rank in the top-20 nationally in blocked kicks with four, a total tied with Washington University-St. Louis for the most in the NCAC. Junior linebacker Cam Crago (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) has all four of Wooster's blocked kicks, and that has him ranked second individually within Div. III.

Up Next: Wooster hosts DePauw at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 7. Prior to the game, the Scots will honor the senior class.
